State Cuts Parks Staff
Today's State Journal-Register broke the story I mentioned that was coming a few days ago — that budget cuts were going to impact the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the agency that manages the state park system among other things.

The SJ-R Outdoor Editor Chris Young wrote the story titled, "DNR to lay of 87 statewide". According to the article the cuts are not at the Springfield level but either at the regional or individual park unit level.

Even before the hints lawmakers gave last week I already could tell the agency was strapped for cash. The local Arts and Crafts Marketplace which was a part of the Illinois State Museum had been told to cut back on acquisitions and advertising.
