Old Slave House remains mothballed
Old Slave House
EQUALITY, Ill. (Aug. 1, 2004) — Despite state acquisition in December 2000, the Old Slave House outside Equality remains closed with the public warned not to trespass or face prosecution.

The Old Slave House is just the latest in a string of historic sites across the state mothballed for lack of funding. Today, less than half of the sites "operated" by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency are actually open and staffed.

Open it NOW! Friends of the Old Slave House remains committed to get the site reopened and calls on Governor Rod Blagojevich to support a public-private partnership that would reopen the site using a regional non-profit organization to run it.
